Retention Tips
Protect Your Natural Nails
It's tempting to peel or pick off dip powder, gel or acrylic nails at home — but this is the single biggest cause of thin, damaged, or peeling natural nails. Picking pulls away healthy layers of the nail plate along with the product, which can take months to fully grow out and repair.
If you must remove nails at home in an emergency, soak nails in warm water with a little oil for 10–15 minutes to soften the product, then gently ease it away — never pull, pry or peel. Follow with a rich cuticle oil and avoid polish for a few days to let the nail recover. This should still be followed up with a proper in-salon check at your next visit.
Common Questions
With proper aftercare, dip powder (SNS) typically lasts 3–4 weeks before an infill or soak-off is needed — one of the reasons it's so popular with our Northallerton clients.
We always recommend in-salon removal. Picking or prising off product can strip layers from your natural nail and cause lasting damage — see our removal advice above.
We'd recommend booking a few days ahead, especially for weekends and around holidays. Call us on 01609 778778 or book online — we'll always try to fit you in where we can.
